Research Focuses
From a scientific point of view, the thematic field Sustainable Smart Cities offers a multitude of exciting and topical issues that are also highly relevant for the practice of urban development and facilitate experimental learning spaces and cooperation opportunities between science and society as a direct result of research access via living labs. The following topics form the focus of the cluster’s activities:
- Analysis & testing of measures for climate adaptation & for improving sustainability
- Development & testing of new technologies & applications for existing urban problems
- Development & investigation of innovative & hybrid learning & working environments
- Development of methods and critical analysis of/on the handling of data in Smart Cities
- Promoting approaches to the user-centred design of Smart Cities
- Intelligent traffic warning systems & equipment and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
- Critical analysis of the handling of data, data storage & evaluation, but also the management of digital building information models (BIM)
- New approaches for the mobility & logistics sector (Smart Mobility)
- Reduction of urban CO2 emissions in areas including building stock, transport & logistics and in relation to urban energy production
- Investigation of company-related smart city business models & start-ups in various thematic fields
